'Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.' Quotes from history that inspire.

I'll kick it off with this one from the Hagakure:

I'm sure there's meaning in there somewhere but did the Hagakure give a demonstration.  Apparently those Samurais were great.

Some of the best sayings come from the Kung Fu series and the "grasshopper" stuff.

Yes, there are 2 examples given one assasination where the samurai drew his short sword (Minus head) and swung at his attacker but he didnt hit him he beheaded his footman instead.

I think a lot of current British political policy must be based on that quote.  It's probably etched in stone somewhere in Parliament's entrance hall.

I don't remember the sources, the second may just be me.

Do not allow what you don't have to prevent your enjoying what you do have.

Make the most of your circumstances for a time but remember that changing those circumstances is also an option.

Used to love Kung Fu, a treat to stay up late watching it when I was young...

Speaking of which: "Youth is wasted on the young!" Oscar Wilde I think!

Dunno but who had on ther headstone “I told them I was ill”

I know Spike Milligan wanted it; whether it actually happened I know not without cheating.
