Sandals For Men - Are They Truly Destigmatised?

Recommended Posts

Lot's of trendy sandals around for men these days. I don't really ever give much of a crap about what other people think but I still hold back anywhere but the beach as they still seem to scream lentil eating, lib dem voting geography teacher, to me.

Am I foolishly missing out on better aerated feet on hot days?

I've recently bought my first pair at the age of 38 and they are fucking great. I could not give the slightest shit what anyone thinks I look like wearing them.

I probably wouldn't take my advice on clothing though, as I have at various points in my life worn some stupid stuff out in public e.g. shiny silver trousers, a ladies shellsuit, a white suit to someone else's wedding, smart casual to Sundissential, etc.

[EDIT] I'm under the impression that you're older than me. Just buy some.

IMO  sandals were fully destigmatised over 20 years ago, when 'action sandals' worn without socks replaced the more traditional 'Jesus boots' worn with socks, beloved of geography masters, evangelical lay preachers and vegetarian socialist cranks.

Nothing wrong with a good pair of walking sandals

experienced camino walkers in the know now wear walking sandals with waterproof socks

pop in blacks or millets and check them out they are very good and smart with a pair of 3/4 length trousers

I think people should just wear what they want for comfort.

Sandals are something I would never wear. I always wear boots, I don’t own any shoes or sandals just over ten pairs of boots for different weather and uses.

If you want comfy feet on a hot day and don’t care about getting funny looks, Vibram Five Fingers are hugely superior to sandals for comfort, although they’re a bit of an arse to put on at first.

Is there much use for hooker boots in rural Scotland?

Up north it is pretty much boots and socks with shorts for summer these days. Only way to get about without blisters. Back to Geography teachers, sod the trainers and no socks.

I see I’m not the first to benefit from your ‘advice’.
