Happy Solstice

Recommended Posts

It's been a lovely day; I don't know whether it's because I know it's the solstice or just because it's been so nice.  I genuinely enjoyed driving home through the blossoming countryside this evening and have been watching the shadows of the trees lengthen across the estuary this evening.

A wonderful day to be alive :)

I don't get up early enough to see sunrise at this time of year, so I think I'll celebrate latest sunset rather than maximum day length.    Which happens next Monday.

It's all downhill from here though, the nights start drawing in :o:D

The sun does not start setting earlier until after 26 June I believe.

The sun rises later though from tomorrow

Just went for a swim as the sun went down. It was one of those seemingly rare summer evenings of recent years that we are having a few of this year

There’s always someone who comes along and spoils everyone’s enjoyment!

Nah. Just joking, you’re right. Everyday from now light lessens.

Meantime there’s still a few months to go of light in the evening.

Mind on though school holiday time is near so it’ll probably be pissing rain for six weeks or so!

i will celebrate it in a min with the classic film the wickerman

I’ve been up in the area today where some filming was done for that cult film. What the link doesn’t say though is that James Gilroy, the landowner, shot himself to the head. He didn’t aim well and died in hospital a while later.

After his death the festival happened for one year then was defunct. Never went myself but I have always like the wicker man effigy that was burnt at the end of every festival. Awesome!
