Staff at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis said he shot through a glass door into the newsroom. "There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload," tweeted reporter Phil Davis. Police said a suspect was now in custody and was being questioned.

WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 28, 2018 Burned his fingertips off prior, refuses to talk Police said a suspect was in custody and being questioned. He is reportedly refusing to co-operate with officers and a police source told CBS News that he had "damaged" his fingertips to avoid being identified. The suspect, a white male in his 20s, surrendered to officers without a struggle. He was found to be carrying fake grenades and smoke bombs in a backpack, police said. They said he used a "long gun" but did not give further details. The deputy chief of Anne Arundel County Police, William Krampf, said an item "we believed to be an explosive device" had been found at the premises and destroyed.
WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) The New York City Police Department (NYPD) later said it had deployed counterterrorism teams to media organisations in and around New York City as a precaution. He added: "Law enforcement does have a name [for the suspect] but we are not able to confirm it at this time." Edited June 28, 2018 by WorkingPoor
wherebee 7,025 Posted June 28, 2018 I guess it's not that interesting to DOSBODS as we i) don;t know the shooters identity yet and ii) the authorities are not yet doing an obvious cover up ah and I forgot... many of us have zero fucks to give for MSM emnployees who across almost the whole spectrum have been showing to be creating and spreading fake news which is contributing to the breakdown of western civilisation....
WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 29, 2018 Police said it was a targeted attack on the newspaper, which had recently received "violent" threats through social media.
WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) ID on the perp: (latino / illegal?) I'll wager he has face tatts. A law enforcement official says the suspect in the Annapolis, Maryland, newspaper shooting has been identified as Jarrod Ramos. The official was not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to share details. Police have said the shooter killed five people and wounded others Thursday. Authorities said the man entered the building in a targeted attack and "looked for his victims." The Masked Tulip 18,684 Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) The guy has serious issues by the sound of things going back many years. He is currently being painted as some kind of stalker / loner who has been making threats against people at the newspaper for some time. His Twitter feed is somewhat disturbing to say the least - amazed that he was not kicked off that. But I have reached a point now where I really want to wait and see whether there is truth in what is being written about him. Or whether he has just been driven to this by being hounded himself? Not the usual gun but shooter - had a shotgun but no AR's or glocks. Apparently had made bombs though. The world is just crazy. WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) 'What's wrong with our society?' Annapolis mayor voices concern at hostility to media Gavin Buckley says Capital Gazette ‘reports on our kids’ soccer games and good, local, interesting stuff’ https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jun/29/annapolis-mayor-gavin-buckley-hostility-media Gavin Buckley, the mayor of Annapolis, was distraught in the wake of the mass shooting at his city’s local newspaper, telling the Guardian: “What’s wrong with our society that we’re this tightly wound that you can be this upset at a newspaper that reports stories on cats being stuck up a tree?” Although Buckley made clear that the Annapolis Capital-Gazette, the newspaper where five people were shot dead on Thursday, was a good paper; he was just still in shock that it was a target. After all, when he was told that there had been a shooting at the Capital, his initial response was to think of Maryland’s state capital in the heart of downtown Annapolis. Annapolis shooting: at least five dead in attack on newspaper office To him, the Capital Gazette “reports on our kids’ soccer games and good, local, interesting stuff that we want to hear about” and he could not understand how “that could make someone that hostile”. He said earlier: “This paper is not a liberal newspaper, it’s not a right wing newspaper, it stays in the middle and covers local issues,” he said. Buckley also expressed his concern that it was a targeted attack on the media. “If this is an attack on journalism it is a sad state of affairs,” said the first-term mayor. “Because journalists, you don’t get paid enough to put your life on the line, we’re not in some war zone, we’re not in some third-world country with a dictator. We are in a Mayberry kind of town, we’re in shock we’re going to be grappling with.” Edited June 29, 2018 by WorkingPoor
WorkingPoor 2,361 Posted June 29, 2018 The Baltimore Sun, the sister newspaper of the Capital Gazette, released an editorial pointing to the atmosphere of hostility toward journalism at present in the US. “At a time of political divisiveness when views of the news industry itself have become starkly polarised, many jumped quickly to speculation about whether the metaphorical war on the media had become shockingly literal ... That’s why so many reporters across the nation got a sickening feeling Thursday afternoon – they couldn’t believe something like this had happened, except that they could.”

The Masked Tulip 18,684 Posted June 29, 2018 Something very interesting is happening with the media in Western countries. For decades the "Press" stamped on a card or on the back of a bullet-proof jacket afford some considerable protection for journalists even in the most dangerous war zones. Journalists of course, whether by accident or design, were frequently killed in wars such as Vietnam, Cambodia and, of course, during the two world wars. But generally being a journalist would get people out of jail or save them from going to jail, or even dying, in the first place. This changed with the rise of muslim fundamentalism which sawe no reason why Western journalists should not be attacked, tortured and murdered. Such things were happening outside of Western countries though. Now it looks as if we are seeing the start of journalists being targetted inside Western countries by Western people. Nutters in these countries used to have rants at journalists. Now they are pointing guns. Not sure what says yet but I think it is telling us something.
