Two men have been charged after a yacht carrying what is thought to be the second-biggest haul of cocaine found in the UK was intercepted off the coast of Cornwall.

The Dutch nationals were arrested after two tonnes of cocaine were found aboard the vessel, which was escorted 120 miles to the harbour of Newlyn, a popular Cornish seaside town.

Dutch nationals Maarten Peter Pieterse, 59, and Emile Adriaan Jeroen Schoemaker, 44, appeared before Bristol magistrates court on Saturday via-video link from the Cornish town of Camborne. They were accused of being “knowingly concerned in the carrying or concealing of controlled drug of class A, namely cocaine”.

Newlyn (biggest working harbour in Cornwall, with Falmouth second) was closed for hours because they brought the bomb squad in for a suspect package on the boat.

It must have been a tip-off. How else would plod have discovered it?

Reminds me of one my favorite banged up abroad videos - Denis and Donald's Story as yachtsman, they are arrested/stitched up... after being pressured to collect an enormous, 30-million-pound shipment of cocaine. BUT this is peanuts in comparison to these two Dutch nationals!

the key is knowing when to quit, they could hang them and id not bat an eyelid, but ive seen someone go from a destitute potbank labourer renting to owning outright a 4 bed detached house in one of stokes more desirable areas and a nice car due to smuggeling cigaretts within 7 years, then one day he just stoped ,his reasoning was he had ,had a good run he never quit labouring either it was where he sold his ciggs, his misses moaned her bag off at him ironicly when he stoped.

Very entertaining.

It was published in 2006 - I thought the adverts were very interesting to compare the diversity in them then compared to now only 12 years later.

There's a vast difference.

I’m surprised that no one has questioned the thread title. I thought t might be a bit obscure.

Clearly the dosbods hive mind is more connected than I imagined

Schoemaker. Similar to the German Schumacher, which was  someone who made shoes. Never made that connection before.

You're talking cobblers?
