Marvellous!

Though also highlighting to all other Devon parents that if they can save more than £60 per child by taking them on holiday within the school term then they should do so as their only penalty with be this fixed price bill.

The fine is per parent per child. So two adults taking two kids is effectively a £240 fine.

The "regular truants" this legislation was supposed to deal with will just ignore the fine and get it added to all the other fines theoretically being paid by a 10p per month benefits garnishment.

This sort of thing would seriously get my back up. I would assert that their registers were wrong and take it from there.

Make them prove a negative.

'Isn't', etc

A Devon County Council spokesman said: "We have been trialling a new IT printing system and a number of mistakes were unfortunately not picked up before this letter was despatched

A lot of you dosbodders are IT nerds....Has anyone anywhere in the world ever referred to a word processor and a printer as an "IT printing system" ?

Quite, the person is bull-shitting with an answer that disparages and shows their contempt for the questioner and reader, they won't get sacked of course.

A father has "marked and graded" a letter sent by the county's education head with seven spelling mistakes.

Daniel Moore from Exmouth, Devon, was sent the letter to inform him of a £60 fine for keeping his son away from school for five days during term time.

A grossly offensive letter typically with no name and unsigned so nobody wants to take responsibility for it.  Then any reply will go round the houses before somebody is told to deal with it - that's if the reply doesn't get "lost in the post".

Sue them for wasting peoples' time.

It's a very dehumanising description for whoever wrote and typed the letter.

Indeed grossly offensive.

My first thought was, "Surely something like this is going to be some form of mailmerged report from a database?"

Extract all the naughty parents' details with a query and insert them into standard paragraphs automatically.

No human input or thought required.

Great if you set it up properly.

Unfortunately for them, it obviously wasn't.

Given that they're sending out circa 300,000 of these per annum, you would hope so.
