Getting the wife an Amazon echo for her birthday..   to me it’s naff but the purpose is internet radio (since her last one broke last month) so does fulfill a need. Sort of.

fine if you're happy with your conversations being recorded, analysed and used for advertising and who knows what else

Should be interesting to see what they can glean from a pair of bilingually confused toddlers yapping incessantly at each other in an incomprehensible babble of Spanglish..

One of those Intel Hades-Canyon minicomputers. I won't get it, because I'm not a computer gamer, and my old laptop serves me well for all my computing needs. However, the idea of that much power in a small box is, for some reason, hugely attractive. I have a vague recollection a Doctor Who episode with Davros holding in his hand a small capsule which could destroy the universe. It would give me that sort of feeling (although I probably shouldn't admit to that on a public forum).

I used to work with a girl from Gibraltar who used to hold conversations with her Mum over the phone like that. They would switch from Spanish to English and back to Spanish in a single sentence.

As for naff things I have always wanted a crushed velvet jacket of the type you used to see in the 1970s.

I know what you mean. I used to thing I dressed fashionably and well, until I looked through some old photos of me in the 60s.
