Sadly that isn’t going to happen. Too many VIs.

Hence why I want the next crash to be humongous. I want it to be so bad that the politicians have enough political capital to reform these systems.

Poverty in the UK is a distribution effect, not absolute poverty.  It is defined as having an income (household, usually) below 60% of the average (median).  Now, this is the median income, so, by definition, half of the population will earn below it.  You can't simply increase incomes, as the distribution will remain (ie, some people will continue to earn below 60% of the median) -- indeed, by increasing the median you might well (probably will) increase the spread of the distribution, ending up with more people earning below 60% of the median (even if they were actually earning more than the previous threshold in real £ terms).

So, the only way to reduce 'poverty' (by this definition) is to reduce the spread of the distribution -- from a 'poverty' point of view, the best situation is one where everyone earns about the same, at which point we have a very 'spikey' earnings distribution and thus no-one will earn less than 60% of the median.  Note -- this might well result in more people earning less (from a £ POV), but nevertheless from a 60% of the median POV there are fewer in poverty.  I think this is the socialist goal -- never mind who's actually in poverty, just make sure that everyone is in the same amount of poverty (apart from the ruling class, who need extra because of all the thinking they need to do).

You might think that a UBI wouldn't change things, as it merely would shift the earnings curve to higher earnings (ie, it doesn't, in itself, change the shape of the distribution, just the offset), but as it is a proportional thing it would have an effect:

Eg, for illustration, consider that before the average family income is £20k (just an easy number for the sums).  The poverty line would be 60% of that, or £12k.  Now add a £5k UBI -- the average family income becomes £25k, and the (60%) poverty line is now £15k.  Subtract out the UBI, and the 'poverty line' family would have earned £10k before the UBI -- ie, the UBI has reduced the poverty line by £2k (ie, all those previously earning between £10k and £12k are 'lifted out of poverty').  But it is just an illusion (ie, purely an effect of the distribution).  Of course, the real poverty line (the point at which people are close to destitution) might well be around there, but that's irrelevant -- we define poverty as a distribution effect, and nothing to do with destitution.

[Note that UBI would almost certainly result in inflation in essential things, and for most the impact would be neutral (indeed, it has to be neutral, on average).  But the impact on the poverty line, as suggested above, would be real and in practice fewer people would end up 'in poverty' even though more people actually had less money for buying essentials.  It is (from that point of view) a clever policy that would likely have exactly the opposite effect of what it is generally considered to have achieved -- more people would have less money, even if fewer would be in 'poverty']

[ie, it is the same as benefits (and minimum wage) now -- the impact is that things become slightly tougher for the average person]

Basically North Korea has no poverty

A mother-of-six has criticised a primary school after her special needs son was excluded.

Tanya Crawford, 31, says she feels as though Norton Primary Academy has "washed their hands" of her son Charlie Jay Magill.

I like this -

The mum says her seven-year-old has a number of complex needs, including speech and language dysfunctional disorder and traits of autism and ADHD.

Traits FFS.

I would wager that kid had an ADOS test and was NOT diagnosed as autistic. His poor language development could simply be down to the mother not spending time with him reading and/or her poor language skills.

I'm making lots of assumptions in the above, but regardless of the reasons why or whatever is wrong with the kid, attacking the staff means there is little other choice:

"the school apparently citing concerns for Charlie's own safety and an assault on a member of staff. "

Well well well ... whod have thought!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48300157

Kyle Jordan, Jayden are getting kicked out by their mum.

Well, Shazza is almost 60 she cannot cope with a ADHD home schooled 17yo at home, not now shes met her soulmate, Dazza.

And the TCs end next and theres no chance that little shit will get a job and pay rent - hes stopped goign to school at 11 - Hes fucking sensitive.

Identical outcome as all these dogs charities. All the dogs in the papers tend to have some mix of pitbull/staff - 'Looking for a home for a 'lively' young boy, Tyson. Would prefer not to be housed with any children that he could get in his mouth .....

A MOTHER-of-three has been handed a suspended jail sentence for continuing to claim thousands of pounds worth of child tax credits despite her children being taken into care.

Gemma Wetherell, 23, became eligible for the benefits to help raise her children in 2011 from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and also claimed housing benefit from Durham County Council.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard this week that Wetherell, of Lightfoot Terrace, Ferryhill, County Durham, received a total of £12,167.19 in fraudulent benefit claims between 2016 and 2017.

Wetherell, who is expecting her fourth child to be born next month, accepted she had made no attempts to adjust her benefit payments as her “head was not in the right place” after having her three children taken into care.

Keith Laidlaw, prosecuting, said: “She was in receipt of child tax credits from 2011 on the grounds that her children were living with her and in her care. She was also in receipt of housing benefit.

23 - (2019-2011) = 15

Maybe its a cunning plan to get around the 2 child limit?

Perhaps having her fourth child taken in to care due to her lack of caring abilities and a recommendation that she should elect to be sterilised and no benefits other than JSA would help her to “get her head in the right place”!

NAZI :o

on a more serious note, the establishment needs to sort this kind of thing out.  It is really not good for the kids. However, dealing with it appears to be a taboo subject.

I knew before I clicked on it... Smack head.

These are really sad stories, heroin addiction is a terrible thing. For women in particular, as it completely obliterates all self respect and leaves them completely vulnerable to men who will fuck anything.

By the sounds of it she got into heroin in her early teens, which suggests a pretty rough background. I have nothing but sympathy for her.

I have some sympathy for her but with three kids in care and another one due my sympathy runs out. Perhaps, after the birth,  encouraging her towards sterilisation is too much for some folk to stomach but at least she could be given a contraceptive implant or injection that will ensure she doesn’t get pregnant again would perhaps help her to get “her head in the right place”!

Heroin addicts are almost always lost causes. Sterilisation or a long term contraceptive implant is the only option in these cases. I still feel sympathetic though, the only reason she has four children is because she's been exploited and abused.

I wonder how old the father of the first was? He was almost certainly her dealer too.

The ones to feel sorry for are the offspring. The really lucky ones will end up adopted, the others thrown into the mincer of social ‘care’

Couple of mates of ours adopted two kids (brother and sister) from this kind of background. It's been a hell of a slog but they've done an amazing job. Even now though, after over a decade the kids still need ongoing psychological help.

Good for them and two very lucky kids. Bet the vast majority will not be as lucky.

Middlesbrough has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in England and Wales. But for one 16-year-old from the town, getting pregnant saved her life.

Robyn used to "get mortal" (drunk) and "end up at random parties". But when she was pregnant, she vowed to change.

She stopped drinking and smoking marijuana, saying: "I used to be pretty crazy. Being pregnant has calmed me down."

Teen births have been falling nationally but rising in Middlesbrough.

Robyn's mother Shelly recalls one night when the police arrived at the house - yet again.

"It was around midnight and the police knocked on the door - they were bringing Robyn home from a party.

"She'd drunk an entire bottle of vodka at an unknown man's flat, passed out, got into the bath and was found sprawled naked on the living room floor. She was 15."

. . .

Shelly said: "Robyn is actually the fourth generation of teen mams in our family.

Robyn says society has a double standard when it comes to boys and girls

There is in indeed Robin with a Y. Boyd are meant to pay tax for all your work dodging fuckwittery
