WHAT DOES THE NEW LAW DO?
This law gives legal effect and a large budget to a programme of activities  bribes for young people prepared to commit to a ‘solidarity’ pledge to the EU.

They're going to dive bomb them with bribes.

Do they provide them with brown shirts and black shorts?

No, blue shirts with gold stars on the epaulettes to denote rank and seniority in the Juncker youth.

I just told the wife who was obliged to be in the young communists as a nipper and she just repeatedly yelled "fuck off!".

She is now drunkenly singing the little bolshevik theme song, badly.

You bastard Juncker.

Stupid question #43,576

What's the difference between this initiative and the ongoing expansion of the ERASMUS programme?

Why does the EU need another layer of administration to handle something that looks like it should fall under an existing body's remit?

Next time someone here's having a drink with Jean-Claude, perhaps they could ask him....

Interesting. One of Macron's big plans is a compulsory "civic service" for French youth - you'll have to spend 1 month doing whatever Nero Macron wants. Now Macron has never had any of his own ideas, all of his policies are handed down from Europe so this seems to fit in with that. He also wants to change the French constitution so he can conscript people into some mysterious body without declaring a state of emergency. All very dubious.

French do military service anyway, even if it's not really military.

Is it that as a separate initiative it can get a separate huge amount of money and the total amount of money being allocated doesn't stand out as blatantly.  Also it's make work for a few more bureaucrats and spongers.  Apparently a lot of them will have jobs in each initiative and I expect each job has it's own wage - KERCHING!

Surely that implies they will actually release their audited accounts for inspection by the hoi polloi?

Good point but I expect it's still possible for those really interested to make a reasonable estimate of the total subsidy for each central initiative by adding the estimates for each branch initiative together.

For example they did give an estimate of the money involved in this branch initiative in the facts4eu link.

WHAT IS THIS COSTING AND HOW BIG WILL IT GET?
Initial cost for 2016 and 2017 : €200 million (est)
First official budget for 2018-2020 – set by law on Thursday: €375.6 million
Additional fund in 2021-2027 draft EU budget: €1.26 billion
With cross-funding from other EU youth programmes, we expect the total figure to reach: €2 billion by 2027
