He can call it what they like. I was looking at jobs and the job I did 15 years ago was paying the same rate as it is today. Yet everything else has gone up massively.

Lises, damned lies and the establishment, to mangle a quote

Don't worry, calm down, calm down, 'cause he said "Our objective is to end low wages in the UK. We will engage responsibly with employers."!

Responsibly to us or the employers though!

Changes in personal allowances:

Basic: £11,850 to £12,000 or 1.3%

Higher: £46,351 to £50,000 or 7.9%

That'll get people rushing out of benefits into work.  Not!

Only fair the richer should get a far bigger proportional increase.

<insert expletive>

Ooh, I might work a few more hours (or pretend to do so). That’s 3.5 grand on the higher tax rate. They must have realised what a massive disincentive it was becoming.

So we're moving from an age of "Austerity" to an age of "Discipline"!

TBC, that'll be £3,649 taxed at 20% rather than 40%!  See what he did there?

HM TreasuryVerified account @hmtreasury 1h1 hour ago

“We will now introduce a UK Digital Services Tax. ...It will be carefully designed to ensure it is established tech giants – rather than our tech start-ups - that shoulder the burden of this new tax.” #Budget2018

DqrtCeRXgAImh_j.jpg:large

Note "2% on the money they make" not "2% on turnover".

An accountant's wet dream as they "prove" how little they make as opposed to the much harder basis of how much they sell!

BTW, big tech has a lot of very clever accountants!

Update:  False alarm:  Martin LewisVerified account @MartinSLewis 2h2 hours ago.  "The new digital service tax'll be targetted at profitable companies, with £500m/yr of global revenues. It will tax their REVENUES not profit - it'll start from April 2020, will raise £400m+".  But the above graphic is from HM Treasury.  I hope they know the difference!  And I hope Martin does as he says "profitable" companies and then talks about "Revenue"!

Update:  Move over Martin, here we go.....

F*ck yeh, me car don't go to no school!

There is more than enough money already for roads. Near me they are taking 3 months to widen the road slightly at a T junction in the middle of nowhere. Its approx. 200 metres of kerb to be added.

Must be costing a fortune for no change to traffic whatsoever.

If Indians were doing this as they do in the Middle East itd be a couple of days work.

£320m for the Northern Ireland Executive…£350m for Belfast [City Region Deal].  There you go!

And the extra for Scotland - what parliamentary Brexit voting favours can we expect (as per the existing rumours?)?

Caroline LucasVerified account @CarolineLucas 3m3 minutes ago.  "Hidden away in #Budget2018 is possible £3bn tax break for oil and gas companies in the North Sea - yet another blank cheque for the dirty fossil fuel industry whilst clean, renewable energy is ignored".  Forget the specifics but note my earlier point about the devil coming out later in the detail.

Well, to be pedantic, the richest regions get richer.

And it was well bad enough in 2000!

Are those numbers really comparing say London v the North East and New York v Detroit!

Not a bad budget at all, considering.

No big giveaways to housebuilders/the rich via increasing the SDLT thresholds for homes over £1 million (which I had feared he would do).

No huge giveaways in terms of benefits.

Tax on big digital corps and axing the evil that is PFI.

Increasing income tax thresholds 1 year early.

The magnifying glass is on its way to you so that you can read the small print. I don’t think there has ever been a budget that gave money to the sap taxpayer.
