Guests flee after masked gunman storms popular Manila resort

Mr Dela Rosa said the man, who appeared to be acting alone, walked into one of the gambling rooms and fired the rifle at a large television screen then poured gasoline onto a gambling table and set it alight.

He said the man then fired again at a stock room containing gambling chips and filled a backpack with them.

The man then left the room and went upstairs to a hotel section of the complex, according to Mr dela Rosa.

"We have cleared the rooms (on the floor of the hotel the gunman was last seen) but we don't see where he is," Mr dela Rosa said.

The Islamic State group immediately claimed responsibility.

IS said "lonewolf soldiers" from its group carried out the attack, according to the SITE Intelligence Group that monitors terrorist organisations.

Get your crowdfunding page up so that people can pay for your flight to attend the Manila vigil.

I'll wait till the Australia attack for that. Would  love to go there...  give my condolences, of course. ;)

Last time is was in New Zealand they had let a boat-load (excuse the pun) of immigrants in - the type who are happy to veil up their pre-pubescent girls. I'm sure that will end well for them. Maybe we can set up a crowdfunded world tour of condolences.

35 dead according to local reports here.

And per the So-Called BBC story; caused by the fire.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-40129016

And pictures of the attacker. It all sounds very strange, attempted robbery by someone who is off their head.

He did not appear to have been targeting patrons, and shot at television screens and the ceiling, according to the police and eyewitnesses.

He also set gaming tables on fire and filled a backpack with gambling chips worth 113m Philippine pesos (£1.7m, $2.3m).

The man later fled to the hotel section of the complex, leaving behind the backpack, and entered a hotel room.

"He lay down on the bed, covered himself with a thick blanket, apparently poured petrol on the blanket and burned himself," national police chief Ronald Dela Rosa said on Friday.

I don't know what he's going to do with the casino chips - I thought the chips relate to the actual casino & you can't use them at another unless it's the same chain.

I reckon he wanted some free gambling, although he probably disapproved of gambling.

Least of all steal chips and then set fire to the only place you could redeem them!

I *think* the theory behind it is he's stopping others from gambling and that's how he gets his 72 virgins.

Yes, 36 dead in a "robbery" sounds like a cover up to me.

There was a claim of responsibility as well.

An attack on gambling during Ramadan?

Did you read the article ?

They died of suffocation from the smoke  not gun shots
