Husband has come back from football with a crooked nose. Anyone had a broken nose before? Do I need to take him to A&E? Nhs page says to go to gp.

Yeah, that’s what you say. You really need to stop punching him in the face. xD

sorry, couldn’t resist.

I would go to hospital so that they can reset it straight. If not, he may look like a boxer.

I have had a broken nose. Go to A&E now as there is only a 3 or 4 day window for Ear Nose and Throat specialists to manipulate it back into position.

Thank you his friend is giving him a lift up there in a minute. Nhs page was confusing me saying you can wait up to 14 days but that sounds a long time. I've got the children asleep so can't leave the house atm.

Quicker the better. Should be an easy straighten

14 days and they'd probably have to break it again.

I had my nose punched almost flat across my face by a fucking cro-magnon in Australia who thought I'd gobbed off at him. It wasn't me at all but I still got panelled.

Quite a spectacular amount of blood hosed out, a pints worth at least. I was bundled into an ambulance and taken to hospital where they had a look at my brain in an MRI. I don't remember much as I was seriously concussed and was sent home a few hours later. I was so disorientated that I managed to stumble into the hospital morgue before finding my way out and back home.

Looking in the mirror was a bit of a shock. I wasn't having it in it's updated form so I cracked my nose back into position myself. That hurt somewhat.

I've had better nights out.

Yep, go to A&E. There could be complications. If it needs straightening then needs to be done ASAP.

Should have said to do this too. I crunched mine back into place but it gives me no end of sinus grief. It also aches like a pure bastard in certain cold weathers, oddly.

Definitely get it checked.

He is back now has been given an ENT appointment for 12th. His friend said his nose looked like a banana just after it happened so he tried to push it back into place on the pitch. I think his nose looks straight now but hard to tell with the swelling.

Shouldn't laugh but..... Well, that's blokes for you. :$ Beginning to see why you have a bit of a downer on Oz, you seem to have a lot of horror tales from there.

As it happens that incident (the last of many) was when I decided that I was done and Oz was absolutely not the country for me. This was further compounded by the bill for the ambulance dropping through my letterbox a week or so later.

I paid it, packed my bags and fucked off the next day, never to return.

Have to wait for swelling to go down before they can see if it is straight or not.

He is lucky to have an appointment. In the meantime I would spend an hour googling info on the do's and don'ts when you have a broken nose. Between now and the 12th he could mess it up more if he is not careful.

Important not to be macho man on the 12th - if it hurts or is causing any discomfort, breathing issues, snoring that was not lresent before, sinus pain, whatever, then say so.

Thank you this is very good advice I will do some reading so he knows which symptoms to talk about if he has any. He does tend to soldier on with injuries and end up the worse for it. It is still bleeding and very painful. He was lucky his friend works at the hospital and made sure he got on the appt list.

Yes, especially if it's as big as mine.

I didn't want to add this at the time but someone at the NHS seems to have forgotten that a broken nose **IS A FUCKING HEAD INJURY** with all that could entail.

Did it figure in your top 10 worse nights out?
