James Middleton reveals private battle with Depression to the Daily Mail.  Can't make up my mind on this one ... so I made a poll.

Quote

The torment of my secret illness: With devastating honesty and courage, Kate’s brother JAMES MIDDLETON reveals his private battle with the depression he calls ‘a cancer of the mind’, how he hid it from his own family and the therapy that saved him

  • James Middleton suffered in silence as his mental health deteriorated
  • He described feeling he was a 'complete failure' as his depression spiralled
  • Just last year, James was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • After confronting his feelings and seeking help, Mr Middleton has a 'zest for life'

Can we have an "I don't care" option?

Not because I don't care about mental illness but because I don't care for the Daily Mail and I don't see why James Middleton is any more qualified to spout forth on the subject than anybody else with depression.

He is Kate Middleton's brother. I feel sorry for him, we've mental health issues in our family and it's shit. It's different to a physical illness where the individual wants to do something to get better. Try persuading someone in the middle of depression that they need to speak to a Dr or therapist when they haven't got the ability to lift their heads of the pillow. The problem with these articles is that who do they help? The depressed person won't read them, the family and friends of a depressed person may read them and say "good for you but it does nothing for our situation". You could argue it raises awareness but I think you'd have to be living under a rock not to be aware of mental health issues nowadays.

I want a proper journalist to delve into how this family have so much money, apparently from running an online party store that turns over very little profit. Nobody seems to question it.

If you mean one like in film and television fiction who doggedly pursues the story, cultivating sources, and fighting the good fight with their editor to get their story published, then unfortunately they don't exist and never have. Beyond consumer issues and trawling the Facebook pages of some unfortunate prole, who's tripped into the limelight by shagging a pupil or putting a cat in a wheelie bin, there never has been investigative journalism.

Very often the 'uncovering' of corporate misdeeds are often initiated and manipulated by a rival or it's a proxy war between powerful people or groups.

Agreed.  Another news blackout.  How the hell did the  Middletons put 3 kids through Marlborough, purchase a £800k Chelsea flat and maintain that lifestyle before the 2011 wedding on the profits of party bags?  My money is on Uncle Gary.

I'm pretty sure you'd lose that money but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't fill the tabloids, for a couple of weeks, with a shock scandal like that, at some stage though.

The Middletons' business was successful,[57] and along with trust funds inherited by Michael Middleton, enabled the family to send their children to independent schools.[58][59] All three children were sent to St Andrew's School, Pangbourne and both daughters were sent to Downe House, a girls' boarding school in Cold Ash and Marlborough College, Wiltshire. James also attended Marlborough.[60]

Their website gets around 200k visitors a month. Say 1% conversion rate that works out as 66 sales per day. I imagine it brings in ok money but nothing more than a middle class income.

Gary Goldsmith, Carole Middleton’s very loose brother. Drug rumours.

I'd go with massively wealthy banking dynasty dating back to the 18th century rumours first.

Hes pulled the 'dyslexic' card a while back.

Just like loads of thick posh kids who spent their time pissing around ,expecting a 'job in the city' not realising that that boat sailed in 1987.

No hes just whoring himself i nthe mail for various 'business ventures'

The nomral route for thick sopns is to send them off to africa to a elephant sanctuary, til they grow out of their stupid phase - normally late 50s.

The photos in the DM of him hugging Spencer Matthews as they parted company on St Barts caused a flurry of reader comments.  I reckon today’s revelation has something to do with that.

Not sure - certainly once friends/colleagues knew that I had personal experience within our family of MH issues (I don't bang on about it but it comes up in conversation!), a surprisingly large number said they were either on them or had been in the past.

About 15% of the working age population have been prescribed them in the last 12 months, about 10% were on them for the full 12 month period.  That itself hides an important factor, which is that the numbers work out as 10% males, 20% females ('at some point') and 6% males, 14% females ('all the time').

[the numbers are higher again for pensioners, minuscule in comparison for children]

Main story on the DM website all morning and comments not allowed. Given it's of dubious national interest I suspect whatever the source of the money the Middleton's have got, is also paying the DM for this coverage.

Or maybe it's much more innocent and writing on marshmallows as a business venture is about go to bankrupt and it's damage control.

The Royals tried a similar tactic with Harry when he started sounding off about "mental, umm, illness".

He's the only one in that family who has worked to get where they are*, and the only one I'd want to go out for a drink with. Anyone who owns a house called Maison Bangbang must be pretty interesting.

*Not taking anything away from Carole and her lifelong social climbing.
