Supposed Delicacies That Make You Barf

Prompted by the sergeant's dog eating comment on another thread, what stuff have you eaten that is a real delicacy for some people that you personally can't stomach. For me...

Tripe - rubber bath mat soaked in puke.

Sea-cucumber - flaccid green fishy-smelling willy look-alike (probably taste-alike too although I've never had the pleasure).

Bird's nest soup - congealed snot in sweet sauce (actually, that is exactly what it is).

Shark's fin soup - stringy, gelatinous, vile tasteless, cruel.

Abalone - hard, rubbery, tasteless (might just have been how it was cooked).

Anyone got any favourites?

I don't eat any seafood so most of the worst examples are probably lost on me.

Foie Gras was the one food I've had that turned out to be everything it was cracked up to be.

Glad to say that, these days, neither do I (went vegetarian a few years back).

Foie Gras is superb

Worse food ? Not found anything yet. So far, I've found that anything that people eat is OK to eat, from odd plants to odd meats and fish.

Personally, I'm not a great fan of the aniseed flavour, but I will still eat it if necessary.

Supposed to smell terrible but taste delicious. I can vouch for the fact that it smells and tastes frigging awful.

I forgot durian - smells and tastes fucking awful.

Truffle, even the smell makes me gag.

Most mushrooms slimy and smell disgusting.

Goats cheese smells and tastes of farmyard.

Any seafood or fish apart from bland white fish.

Any of the myraid disgusting delicacies my french family eat, the worst being brain. To be fair I have never tried them but they look too horrible.

Calamari. Chopped up hosepipe

Had that for supper tonight. Squid, octopus, cuttlefish, you either cook it on a very, very smoking hot pan or griddle, or deep fry it, just for a moment, less than a minute, or you stew it for an hour. Anything in between and it will be tough.

Here's a simple recpie
