Peterlee - next to fill up with the worst of the EEers?

I've always wondered why white, middle class lefties show their support for diversity by living in the most white British area that their budget allows them to.
Peterlee would be well off the radar.

OK @The XYY Man talk us through this one if you can - looks a decent house by UK standards on the face of it, depending on the state of the inside, and not, I would guess, in the worst part of town, for a given value of "worst" as we're talking about Peterlee.

10 times less than in Surrey, @Wight Flight.

It sold for 35k today at auction. That seems cheap. I bet there's a reason for that though, apparent only to locals like yourself, so I was curious to see if you knew....

(It's the one from the other thread about conning the NHS)

I have just watched the end of that (BondWolf) auction as I wanted to know how much lot 129 went for. Before you say 'cheap' again, look at the legal paperwork for the lot, special conditions and how much in fees. Lot 129's were 18 grand.

Can't be arsed to sign up to get the papers just for curiosity, but sure, I take your point - 18k is a lot of legals, fees and whatnot on a 38k selling price, so the 35k Peterlee one could have gone over 50k too.

It is a decent house - but it is in Horden. I would suggest that if you want to understand the reasons for the price, then you should watch the first episode of series on BBC3 called ''Canny Cops'' on iplayer.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p07dhbd4/canny-cops

You should then watch this YouTube video.

And also have a look at this one if you have time.

Come back after doing so, and I will be more than happy to debate it with you.

The first houses he shows - the new builds in Eden Court  - are at the top of Eden Street, where I lived from 1978 until 1983.

My mother lives less than five minutes walk from the house featured in your auction post, and directly opposite some of the the ''zombie houses''...

OK, I watched the videos that don't need the UK VPN, will have to watch Canny cops on my PC when I have time. Think I get the gist.

Wonder if there is scope for a place like that to be regenerated and brought back to life by an artistic community (or similar) like happened in parts of Detroit, where a few years back large houses had become almost worthless.

Seems ridiculous when there are people in need of somewhere to live.

No internal photos on any estate agent ad always makes me think the inside is trashed and/or missing. No description - they really can't find anything to say about it?? Look at the site plan (estate agent photo 3 ) - I think what is being sold is the "granny flat" built in the back garden of the house in the photo. Note the photo shows a nice garage but it's not on the plans (so does it even have planning permission?).

It's a high crime area (150+ just in October !) https://www.streetcheck.co.uk/postcode/sr84jp recent sold prices are £65k - £90k so expect some major problems as this one went so cheap https://houseprices.io/?q=SR8+4JP

I used to do work at a secure compound at nearby Hartlepool - instructions were to unlock the high security gate - drive into the compound and lock the gate immediately - then open the building and park *inside* the reception area and lock the front door behind you.  Our CCTV cameras were on high poles fitted with anti-climb spikes - all inside the big fenced compound - the cameras still got stolen !!

Average of 1 sale/year to 08.

Then 5 sales in last 10 years.

Priceless - or sellable.
