No chance, she went to the same schools and uni as the rest of them.Thats the problem,no diversity of thought or experience.

Yes, you are right! One thing I found working in the City was that even though the teams are very multi national and multi ethnic everyone - apart from the occasional person like me - had been through similar filters and life experiences. For me the strength of this forum is that anyone with an interest and knowledge can participate.

Anecdotally I met Andy Brown, the Fund Manager from Cedar Rock who told a story about cleaning floors as a summer job when he was a student. I thought that sounded pretty down to earth until I found out it was some neighbour's mansion's floor.

Also whenever I've met one of the City's Rock Stars, whislt workaholics, they have always seemed dreadfully normal and just in the right place at the right time to make their fortune and would never offer anything to make you go wow! I was once in a meeting with Ron Kalifa when he was challenged about key people leaving the organisation and he just said it wasn't a problem as they'd be replaced from the wider workforce O.o

Whilst I've got your attention, I'd like to personally thank you for this thread and insights given. I invested in the Guiness Global Energy and BlackRock Natural Resources funds off the back of your themes and both have done very well :)

What is their plan to get people to do low wage jobs? They're better off on benefits.

The collapse is caused by people quitting work to suck the state teat. Nothing they're doing addresses that. Unless they want the collapse to usher in lower benefits that are not sufficient to live on, lower living standards and greater state control. I always try to forget that option in much the same way that a drunk forgets most of New Years Eve.

I’m not going to enjoy going back to work for 10 an hour am I lol.

Sorry to rain on anyones parade about private healthcare but mate of mine told me last week its now a 2 month wait to see a private consultant in NI (as opposed to 3 year wait on the NHS for the same consultant).

This isnt new, 5 years ago I was on the wait list to see a consultant, me pissing blood. Said it would be 3 months, rang 6 weeks later and they said it would still be 3 months. It was a monday morning in Feb, I rang private hospital and they fitted me in for 8am on the Wednesday.

Thats a memory now too as people who can pay are paying and adding to the list and now private is getting full too.

It is a fair bet if you google that NHS consultant name you will find them doing private as well.

So for instance I did this last week, I would guess for a appointment you are looking at months (GP, then referral, then wait for next appointment). Or I could pay £300 and see him 6pm in a few days for a 30 min slot.

The private hospital is only round the corner from the NHS one as well so I'm guessing this must be a nice little side gig for him, as I guess he would be paid whether there are customers or not.

Yup, my mother on private waiting some time as private very busy.

Oddly this makes NHS worse as private used to sell unused capacity.

I hear Belfast also world leading in terms of knee reconstruction surgery so will be highly sought after ;)

We are starting to collapse (NHS,Dentists etc) because we are importing consumers of them who dont produce

Be interesting to see some figure to support this. Whilst I don't deny that this is an issue, I would suggest that 'home grown' multi-generational 'Tracies' [pumping out offspring], pseudo-disabled, and benefit claiming under 16 hour 'employees are responsible for a great % of that issue.

Once you spot the nudging and grooming, you can’t unspot it.  The narrative changes and suddenly black is white, or at least a sludge grey. I only listen to msm to find out what they have in store for us down the line.  Well, apart from Steve Allen who doesn’t do politics on his show.  Mind, I’ve noticed a few comments recently which makes me think he is being pressured.

once the majority wake up to the nature of the msm, it’s game over.

Yes same here in terms of of why I listen to MSM.

In regard to LBC I tend to listen at odd hours so sometimes listen to Steve Allen, he used to be more funny and almost risque but I think in recent years he has unfortunately been 'moderated by his bosses'. Apparently he had a long running spat for several years with London taxi drivers, up to him i suppose, but couldn't see that sort of thing being allowed today.

But I'm probably a glutton for punishment because most LBC presenters come across as irritatingly woke socialist types or worse. I mean Darren Adam and Nick Abbott are simply vile, and their programmes are the very definition of left wing bubbles.

A major problem with LBC is the conflict of interest it has with its advertising business including a major bill board business. Majid Nawaz says his contract wasn't renewed because he wanted to speak out against COVID and lockdown, whilst the station (and it's parent companies subsidiaries) had big government contracts to warn the public of the dangers of the COVID pandemic.

I had my leg rebuilt in Belfast. In most other places it would have been amputation. I had to keep checking after every surgery that it was still there!

To all of you who replied to my post last night about energy costs, I must say I am a tad jealous. Not just for my own situation, but for many of my customers who are struggling with finances at the moment.

I know a few people that are sitting in cold houses this evening, because of all this shit. Some of them cannot afford the repairs needed to get the boiler working, let alone the gas.

Il be going private hospital maybe this year or next, but for a hair transplant not health reasons xD,a resveratrol ,quercetin and metformin see to the health. My children are worried im having a mid life crisis, though i tell them its simply due to inflation, each graft will cost more in the future so better to get them done earlier. My only worry is if il be booted off here if i have a full head of hair, so il just go for mid density ,not high, so i can still class as "thinning" and stay a member here.

Some people will be ok. The bennie class.  O.o

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11595211/Cost-living-payment-2023-dates-900-spring-DWP-instalment.html

Millions of low-income households in Britain will receive up to £900 in cost-of-living support beginning this spring.

More than eight million eligible means-tested benefits claimants will receive three cash payments deposited directly into their bank accounts over the financial year, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) revealed today.

There will also be a separate £150 payment for more than six million people with disabilities and £300 for over eight million pensioners.

I think it really shows how most people let themselves drift into taking no interest in the economy.I think iv saved my family £14kish by getting them all a fix.Another  £900 bung to bennies though this year for theirs.Nothing for the low paid lad in a bedsit. If one good thing comes out of this,it might be that people wake up who are being fleeced.

A personal Milestone passed today. My SIPP has now officially doubled since beginning investing in late 2020. 2 years.

Many thanks to all the input here for everything. My brain is not the same as it was in 2019. In a good way. Mostly.

Well played. I'd like to say that I'd done as well, but despite the good advice on here I've still managed to fuck up a bit too much. <cough> Poly <cough>

But would they want to.

Imagine thinking that you lived in a world that made sense, where we were on the right path, and where everything was going to work out. Would you want to voluntarily leave it?

The MSM don't have people fooled, they just give them wha they want to hear and people fool themselves into beleiving it.

Yes. A bit like that guy in the matrix who wants to be plugged back in. Bread and circuses are keeping it going. I think we might be running out of the bread.

I bought more Poly today. I'm aware I might lose all my money but I like the positive divergences on the chart, and the shift in tone @JMD updated us on sounds good too. Widows/orphans/dyodd

I've never sold any, so in theory it could all come good for me.

In theory.
