Maybe.  I agree, it is interesting and there is a case for it staying here.  Conversely, there is a solid case for the discussion to be placed in Shares Trading section, or in maybe even in the related Gamespot thread!

Generally, we are all accustomed to filtering out noise, be it on this thread or in general life.  Let's face it, given this week's market conditions it could be argued that WSB/Reddit content provides a little 'noise variety' from the obligatory price down/stock dumping bleating.

I think there's a good argument for this.

Maybe a few days discussing this, along with the macro will do us good to focus our minds on how things can go tits up.

But I'm equally happy if DB and other senior contributors think we should shut the fuck up about it now.

My portfolio is 2.9% off its all time high with a couple of ex divis as well.If hes down over 10% he must be invested in just a couple of stocks,or sectors.Plus its not really for this thread. This thread is about a macro road map not what price BP is tomorrow at 10.30am.Im very happy if we see some pull backs,i have a lot of divi cash flowing in to pick things up with and still cash to allocate. If you dads pension is 4x the market moves on the downside i cant imagine what hes invested in.

I'm 2.1% down on my FTSE income portfolio in a week.  Funny to see the REITS and homebuilders coming to my rescue, oh, and Petrofac (21%)!  On a monthly basis, many holdings are in the overbought zone momentum wise and most of them and the rest are topping on their candles (i.e. retreating from their monthly highs).  Giving back some of the November bounce or into a horizontal channel?

I keep having this nagging feeling that DB is going to make us all wealthy, but it won't matter.

Because we'll just be the wealthiest man on a pile of rubble.

I think the real interesting one is the silver market. Making something 'too big to fail' actually fail would have massive fallouts. I still think the unwritten story here is that there are whales using it as cover, every single media story has given reddit the credit for it.

In the worst case scenario I think the govt could backstop Gamestop losses and then pass new rules to make it harder to speculate.

Surely it can only be good for crypto, the only thing certain out of this is that the dislike for authorities will increase.

Perhaps they will limit stock trading to institutions or up the account limits? They did it way back when they limited day trading to those with accounts over 25K usd, otherwise you cant trade in and out in a day. After all its for their own good (isnt it :CryBaby:)

TPTB totally brought this on themselves through currency debasement. This, bitcoin, and disruptive things that havnt yet been thought of, are what happens when you make it impossible for people to use a national currency as a savings vehicle.

t212 has blocked buys of AMC and GME, i suppose its a warning of what can happen if something goes too parabolic, and i suppose it could happen to any share that is in massive demand, i wasnt going to buy any more but im tempted to switch to my other account now and buy some more.... hahaha, maybe not.

sort of dove tails with the previous discussions about you not really owning your own shares in a nominee account, without channels open for you, your investments are basically worthless to you. Cash and physical bypass this obviously.

I just got this email from Stake (a Robinhood clone):

This week the market has seen unprecedented trade activity that is causing extreme strain on the global market infrastructure. This is causing unpredictable widespread market outages.

We know this isn’t an ideal experience, it’s not the one we want to provide. Today our team has worked tirelessly to reduce the impact of this systemic disruption to our platform. You can read more about the work performed on the platform here.

We expect further disruptions to occur this week due to historic market conditions worldwide.

Regards,
The Stake Team

I'm pretty sure all the screenshot headlines calling this antisemitic are fake / trolling, unless you can link to the article?

More evidence they might be on the ropes...

Nasdaq CEO Suggests Halt to Trading to Allow Investors to ‘Recalibrate Their Positions’ After GameStop Surge

Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman suggested Wednesday that her exchange could halt trading activity for stocks, in the event they were targeted by internet users, to enable the exchange to investigate possible manipulation and allow investors to “recalibrate.”

She made the comment in a morning interview with CNBC’s Joe Kernen, speaking in reference to price surges inspired by Reddit users. Members of the website’s “WallStreetBets” forum caused stock prices to surge to obscene heights this week for companies including GameStop and AMC Theatres.

“I think that, in general, when we evaluate how we would manage through a situation where you see a significant run-up in a stock not based on news, not based on fundamentals — what we do is we do have technology that evaluates social media chatter. If we see a significant rise in the chatter on social media channels … we also match that up against unusual trading activity, [and] potentially halt that stock to allow ourselves to investigate the situation, to be able to engage with the company, and to give investors a chance to recalibrate their positions.”

No idea.

But put that headline alongside the dozens of others on white supremacy on CNN business website and it doesn't look out of place one bit.
