My DH is just the same! Listens to podcasts which confirm his views! He also has stockpiled food and has just bought a generator as he is sure there are going to be power cuts! Also un-vaccinated and blaming the death or various young sports people on the vaccine (without any evidence that they have even been vaccinated). Am also fed up with it. He thinks I should take all my savings out of the bank and buy gold. I actually think wfh with no social interaction has sent him bonkers.

Yes, I forgot about the gold (and silver in his case) He has boxes upon boxes of silver coins.

I really appreciate everyone's advice, I was hesitant about posting on aibu, however, I'm glad I did.

It's so difficult to think clearly when you're in this situation.

Strange isn't it when you look back how what was put in place has come to pass, almost like it has all been planned.

Introduced in January 2019, the cap stops suppliers simply passing hikes in wholesale prices on to the consumer and is meant to be reviewed by Ofgem every six months.

They are going to stick valuable solar panels on them, the security had better be armed because any decent Irishman knows that Solar Panels are better off on their roofs rather than sitting in a field for somebody else (foreign) to make money off their backs.

The DH's should do what I did. Bring out the CB balance sheet / money supply charts. Sit down and watch the excellent Hidden Secrets of Money series together. You can't argue with that stuff. It's there in black and white and has happened in history many times before. Talking about The Plan etc is not the way to do it and a lot of that will ultimately turn out to be noise, and politics following the macro, IMO.

Main thing is to marry someone with a brain and intellect equal to or greater than ones own. Who likes to question and discuss the hard topics in life and keeps an open mind. Failing that, dont marry at all.

Those women are brain dead and that site is a cesspit. Sounds like a lot of people are actually getting prepared though, so good news there.

They spend their entitled lives leaching off others and indulging in competitive bragging, any decent woman has better things to do. If you want to know who is destroying the planet, stockpiling shoes 'n' handbags they never use and constantly replacing functional things because they are not fashionable then Mumsnet is the place to go.

Equal to or slightly less IMO, assuming you're a bloke.

The kind of woman you want is one with a need to respect her mate -- difficult if he's obviously less intelligent. It's not so important the other way around, though the gap still shouldn't be too big.

Took a stroll around the city of London today.  Just as the bars etc were starting to fill up,  every other car that went past was a prius being driven by a Muslim.

I wondered how many of the people walking past me were English,  and more to the point how many of them had a proper job that actually contributed to the country or were they just doing make-work, living off the backs of Chinese slave labour or gratuitous house price inflation.

I go on these little strolls a couple of times a year.  Usually I just look at the shiny buildings and think about how much cash I can take off them.  Today felt like the end of days.

I pissed on the side of the BOE,  if I could've decided on a decent slogan I'd have spray painted something in the side.  Just couldn't think of anything apocalyptic enough.

I do like some of his stuff but I think he is very wrong about the Russians as I think that the West are the bad guys.

Oh for sure I also disagree with some of his Russia stuff. I disagree even more with his man-made climate change opinions! But I guess can't/shouldn't agree on everything. And I do find his macro perspective useful and his rise/fall of empires theory persuasive.

But context i think is important. Murrin's said elsewhere many times that the West should have engaged with Russia and not alienated and forced it into the clutches of China. This particular podcast is from March (older than I thought), so from the beginning of the conflict, and I think his point back then was for West not to show weakness to Russia. Weakness in geopolitics always backfires, and big brother China for example is quietly sitting back, listening and learning.

but the mumsnetters are looking for confirmational bias from 'like minded mumsnetters' like the people they are complaining about have sought it on you tube and podcasts.

To be honest - if society does collapse then even preppers will go down with it, you cant really survive as an completely isolated entity for long, its just not possible.

Empires fall when they repeatedly debase their currency, usually because they are consuming more than they produce themselves and are paying for it with tokenage.

Yes but as stated in the podcast debasement is part of a process or cycle of empires. Empires resort to doing it because once the empire stops expanding (as all empires eventually do), the resources which were once in plentiful supply, as the empire continued to plunder new lands, instead resources start to become scarce. As prices begin to rise, those in power continue to make (unfunded) promises, and for a while the political promises made paid for by debasing the currency. But it's can kicking and eventually the citizenry revolts, rince and repeat.

Well yes he like many others in the sector is marketing his wares. So not really sure what point your making. If he was lying about the specifics of his past trading calls I think his customer base would be very displeased and lose confidence, particularly as I believe its a specialised community of commodity/FX traders.

tonights bbc radio news leads with some quango/independant consultacy we've never heard of now says av energy bills will be 6k next spring.

this story has been on repeat for several weeks with them adding 1k each time. i usually watch itn / sky. it reminds me of  a spoof farce movie that gets ever more ridiculous. 3.5k is simply impossible for a very large group, they.ll go cold or not pay. 6k i.d guess the group is 50%+.

i don't quite.understand what they wantto achieve.

truss was interviewed.in the distillery mid last week saying short term we need to take as much energy as available from n. sea , invest in nuclear and go full steam at new tech and roll out of renewables.

she didn't say it but coal would be a good addition to the first bit. what are the lead times? her soundbite was do all that rath@er than just keeping putting a sticking plaster on it. couldn't agree more.

I think/hope a energy price cap of £2000 will be set, paid for by extra taxes (perhaps involving a sinking fund paid over 20 years) and removing the green levy/vat on bills. Plus extra government benefit support for the poorest.

I agree but is this story even being reported in the main media? I have personally only seen the topic discussed on GBNews.

But solar panels on productive agricultural land must be a radical first?! ...I mean even permission for housing would typically be denied would it not? But I'm no expert, perhaps the farming experts on here could comment please?

“The paper also reports that, under plans drawn up by the Treasury, doctors would be able to write prescriptions to give people money off their energy bills.

Under the proposal, GPs would hold a patient consultation and verify they need help, before writing a prescription. Money would then either be given in cash or as a voucher.”
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62619761

I am guessing they are just presenting an option that’s a bit out there. they would normally route these things through councils. Presumably in some places might then become hard to get a doctors appointment?

Ludicrous idea. GPs would give money to everyone that asked. If they didn't then a second opinion would be sought. It would be fantastically bureaucratic. People would slip through the net, especially a subset of proud pensioners. You would have people who are not supposed to qualify getting money, whilst others who are supposed to don't.

Then there is the problem of GPs not having time to do their actual job. More GPs quitting because this isn't what they want to do.

There are so many holes in this proposal that it won't be taken forward. GPs will see to that.

The only viable solution is cutting bills across the board. Nothing else will work.

£2,500 is more likely. Part of the current rapid predicted bill inflation could be to make their eventual cap seem much more generous than it is. Eg without our help your bill would be £6k not £2.5k.

They should restructure so that the standing charge is lower also. The incentive to use less energy should be substantial.

indeed - standing charge should be near zero.  You make a house properly insulated, the reward should be clear.
